Dr. Margherita Fontana

Margherita Fontana, DDS, PhD, is the Clifford Nelson Endowed Professor of Dentistry in the Department of Cariology, Restorative Sciences and Endodontics at University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She is Director of the Global Initiatives Program in Oral and Craniofacial Health, Director of Cariology courses, and Cariology Discipline coordinator. She has over 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts, with her work attracting significant funding (e.g., NIH, AAPD, industry). She was President of the IADR’s Cariology Group (2007-2008), Chair of ADEA’s Cariology Section (2010-2011), President of the American Academy of Cariology (2016-2020), and is currently Vice-President of the European Organization for Caries Research (ORCA).
